Christian Deaf Ministries |

Dear friends of the deaf ministry: It's time to get out another newsletter and let you know what is happening in the ministry. It seems that things get busier and busier as more opportunities come up.In January I attended the board meetings in Jamaica, and worked at the office for the rest of the ten days we were there. A friend went with me and we were able to attend the deaf church on Sunday, and the deaf fellowship on Thursday nights. It is always a blessing to me to see all "my" kids grown up, some married with children, and serving the Lord. In March I went to Florida and visited three of my supporting churches to give a report on activities with the ministry. It is so good to see the interest in helping the deaf hear the gospel even though we are separated by many miles. The churches continue to have a burden for the deaf. This year has afforded many opportunities thus far to speak in new churches about the deaf ministry. I have also been in several supporting churches as requested. The sign language classes have been very large last fall and this spring. Right now we have 32 persons learning signs. It is good because they spread out in many directions and churches; some have deaf family members, etc. I have one deaf man in my church right now. The sign choir has had many opportunities to give concerts in nursing homes, churches and other organizations. It is always a good opportunity to share the ministry with those who haven't heard about it. One concert was to a very large group of about 70 persons, and we did a skit showing the DO'S AND DON'TS when you meet deaf persons. Many said they learned a lot! In November I had the unfortunate problem of breaking my right arm so I was in limbo for quite a while. I had surgery and had a plate and 6 pins put in plus a bone graft where the bone was crushed. Then 6 weeks of therapy followed that so I was ?handicapped? for quite a few weeks. Now I am OK signing, playing piano, etc. Praise the Lord for healing up well. The project to support the Burketts in college is going well. They have been in college for 3 years and I have been able to send them $15,000 thus far. They have two more years to go so I am praying that I can continue this support. I am making a new CD now and all the money goes to help this couple in college. I just visited them last month and they are doing well. Deaf camp was just held in St. Vincent with Donville Jones as speaker. It is always a great blessing for the deaf to study the Word and they are hoping for another session in the fall. Because of the expensive airfare, we held camp in one island; then in the fall will hold camp in Grenada. That way they don?t have to raise airfare to fly to another island. In these tough economic times, we are doing what we can to cut down expenses. Pray that the support will continue so that many more deaf can be helped. Deaf retreat is coming up June 5-7. Damian Campbell of Jamaica will be the speaker and his wife, Felicia, will be counseling and teaching. Then on Sunday, June 7, Damian will be preaching at a hearing church (we will have reverse interpreters for the hearing). We have invited many churches who have supported the ministry over the years so they can see some of the fruit of the ministry. The need in the islands for workers is great. Pastors to start deaf churches are needed so pray that more deaf men will feel the call to ministry. I thank God for the way He has supplied all the needs through these 18 years and opened so many opportunities to help the deaf spiritually and otherwise. Thanks for your support and prayers through the years. Yours for the deaf, Lois Dungan |
