OCTOBER 2010

Dear Friends of the deaf ministry:

It was an exciting summer which was spent at Odosagih Bible Conference where I
Played the piano for the meetings morning and evening, interpreted for the deaf, led the
Morning prayer meetings, and made CDs in my spare time.  We tape the messages and
put them on CDs so that anyone can purchase them.  I also taught sign language each
week to the K-6 class and then each Thursday night they sang a couple songs in sign
language.  So I didn’t get to my room too much during the summer.

I did make many interesting contacts with the deaf or their families during the summer.
I found some who are interested in coming to deaf retreats or camp which will be good.

Sign language classes have started for this term.  This year we have less than last
Year.  We only have about 8 or 10 in all but that is fine.  People come when they are
Interested, so we pray that those who have learned are using their signs.

I will be speaking in a public school this afternoon about the deaf work.  I am listed as a
Community helper so can do that.  I talk about the needs of the deaf both locally and in
The island, and actually throughout the world.  They are the largest unreached people
Group in the US!

I have been doing some concerts this summer, and have another CD that is out now.  If
Anyone is interested, please get in touch with me.  All the money goes to help Sheldon
And Rachel Burkett with their college tuition.
Rachel and Sheldon will be graduating in May from the Harvest Deaf Bible College in
Ga.  I expect to attend and also take some people with me who have helped support
Them also.  They have to raise their own support and I will be taking them around for 2
Weeks in February to visit some churches.  I may have them up to New York for that
Purpose too.  They are much-needed in Jamaica as the new church has recently
Started and a pastor is needed.  Damian Campbell’s vision is to plant deaf churches
Around the island so that the deaf have access to a church.

I have been asked to get 30 Bibles and 30 sign language books for the new church at
CCCD.  I am working on that right now and want to send them down by work teams
Which go often.  Pray for that project.  They are teaching signs to the parents of the
Deaf which is a great project.

I was able to get a used saxophone to send to the hearing children of deaf parents so
They can learn to play.  Sometimes hearing children get “left behind” when they have
Deaf parents.  So this is a really neat project for me.  The sax is being repaired and
Fixed and hopefully trouble-free for them as musical instruments are not plentiful in Jamaica.

I will be going to Jamaica in January for the board meeting, and a friend is going along
To have 2 concerts for the benefit of the deaf schools.  Also I will be in Florida in late
February-early March to speak in 3 churches and visit family and friends.  Jugging sign
Language and travel is fun!  I need a helicopter!

Also spent a lot of time after I got home from camp working on annual reports to the
IRS and NYS.  There is no end to the correspondence.  Right now I am looking for a
Speaker for June 2011 retreat.

Thanks so much for the support you send and prayers for the ministry.  This is our 19th
Year and many have been reached for Christ during this time.  It’s exciting working for
The Lord because you never know where you will go or what you might be called on to
Do!
